Essential Safety Measures (ESM) is the fire, life safety and health items installed within your building that you are legally required to maintain. You may already be having most of your essential safety measure items maintained such as fire extinguishers, fire hose reels or your air conditioning, which are commonly called 'active' systems.

There is also other essential safety measures contained within your building called the 'passive' systems such as exit doors, paths of travel, fire rated floors and walls, penetrations, vehicular access etc. New Building Regulations were introduced in 2006 and now requires all commercial building owners to have an Annual Essential Safety Measures Report prepared by 13th June 2009.

Annual Essential Safety Measures Reporting (AESMR) and achieving safety compliance can take between 6 months to 2 years, depending on the quantity, complexity and cost of having non compliances rectified.
